Parks and recreation to cancel certain programs amid COVID-19


In the interest of public health and in the abundance of caution, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities (PRCF) is cancelling certain programs and special events amid concerns regarding the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19. 

The following events are cancelled:
·        All Senior Aerobics classes at both Swansboro and Bellemeade Pools
·        Basketball championship games scheduled for Friday, March 13 at Southside Community Center and Saturday, March 14 at Armstrong High School
·        Blarney Bash at 17th Street Market on Saturday, March 14
·        South of the James Farmers’ Market at Forest Hill Park on Saturday, March 14

PRCF is also restricting travel outside of city limits for department-sponsored programming.

The Linwood Robinson Senior Center located at 700 N. 26th Street and Pine Camp Senior Building located on the Pine Camp Arts and Community Center campus at 4901 Old Brook Road will be closed as of 5 p.m. today. A reopening date for either facility has not been determined at this time. Pine Camp Arts and Community Center will remain open and activities will continue as scheduled.
