Business Appreciation Event to Honor Local Companies


Eleven recognized by city’s Economic and Community Development Department

The city of Richmond’s Department of Economic and Community Development recognized local area businesses with an event titled “City of Richmond Businesses – Worth Their Weight in Gold.” The event was held on June 7, 2012, at 7:30 a.m. in the ballroom of the newly renovated John Marshall and was held in honor of Business Appreciation Week as designated in Virginia for the week of June 4 - 8, 2012.

Mayor Dwight C. Jones addressed award recipients at the breakfast event where businesses were recognized for their impact on job creation, business retention and attraction and investment fueling Richmond’s economy. “This event gives us an opportunity to provide collective and individual recognition of area businesses that have contributed greatly to the economic fabric of our city,” said Mayor Jones. “Richmond is home to an array of small businesses as well as Fortune 1000 companies, and this is one way we are saying thank you for locating and operating your business in the city of Richmond.”

The businesses recognized for their contributions during calendar year 2011, along with the category of recognition, were:

·         Business Retention\Expansion Project of the Year – Health Diagnostic Laboratory 
·         High Impact Award – Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of Richmond
·         Enterprise Zone Award – Station 2
·         Commercial Area Revitalization Effort (CARE) Program Business Expansion Award – Tyler Automotive
·         Community Impact Award – Bon Secours Richmond Community Hospital
·         Advantech Maggie LWalker Technology Center Business of the Year – Intelligent Information Technology Solutions, LLC
·         Tourism Award – Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and Virginia Historical Society
·         Transportation Award – RideFinders
·         Business First Richmond Program Volunteer of the Year – Julien Williams
