City of Richmond DPU suspends water and wastewater service disconnections amid COVID-19

In the interest of public health and safety in response to the threat of COVID-19 and in consultation with Mayor Stoney, Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities is suspending all disconnections of water and wastewater service for non-payment.

This suspension is to ensure that all members of the Richmond community are able to continue to practice good hygiene, by washing their hands with soap and water, to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities (DPU) works diligently to ensure public health and safety are at the core of how we provide utility services.  From clean drinking water to safe and reliable natural gas delivery, DPU is committed to serving our customers.

In the event the department is impacted, we have emergency operations plans in place to continue efficient utility service that will lessen any impacts to our customers while maintaining all public health and safety standards.  To that end, while DPU will continue to respond to all emergency calls. For the safety of our employees, we will limit non-emergency service calls that require crews to enter residential properties. As a reminder, utility billing and payment information can be found online at www.richmondgov.com/dpu.
